Vivaldi's Motezuma

Concordia University, 1282 Concordia Ave, St. Paul

Vivaldi’s lost opera, Motezuma has recently been revived! Only parts of the manuscript survived and was discovered at the Berlin Sing-Akademie archive in 2002. Even though the libretto has always been known, the music was thought to be lost.

BSM’s Artistic Director Matthias Maute completed and reconstructed the remains of the manuscript, and we are proud to present this semi-staged opera on tour across 7 cities. With a full cast and a baroque orchestra, this opera gives the 16th century Aztec ruler of Mexico a fresh perspective.
